Through the Ocean Wave Data User Workshop held in September 2007, ESA sucessfully recruited over 150 experts from the wave community spanning the commercial, operational and research based sectors, to provide a view to their wave data requirements. The expertise from the wave community included fields from remote sensing (calibration/validation and algorithm developments), in situ wave measurements, ocean wave modelling, statistical analysis, ocean engineering, and product generation from wave data. The conclusions were used to constuct a statement of work for the Data User Element (DUE) project "GlobWave", which was put out to tender by ESA in mid 2008.
GlobWave is one of a number of initiatives within the wave community and we invite you to consult http://www.globcolour.info/ and http://www.medspiration.org/ for examples of other DUE projects on ocean colour and sea surface temperature products.
