May 2011

This is the project summary covering progress in May 2011.

The main achievement this month is the announcement of a call of abstracts for the GlobWave User Meeting in Cork on 5-6 October. Much preparation took place for this, including the configuration of a conferencing online tool to allow registration and abstract submissions. The deadline for abstract submission is 16th August and a small number of travel bursaries will be available for selected abstracts. It should be an enjoyable meeting and other activities during the meeting include a tour of the NMCI facilities, an evening social event at Greene's restaurant and a poster session.

Most of the RIDS have now been fixed for the PM4 deliverables and these will be submitted to ESA during June.

NOC has some problems due to a thunderstorm which caused a power failure and loss of the database. The backups have been able to restore everything but it has taken some time to re-configure things. However, NOC are confident of supplying UKMO, SHOM and ECMWF with the May reports by the contractual date of working day 15 (21st June).

A Telecon took place on 1st June between ESA, Logica and Ifremer to review the progress of the online tool. This is still on track to be ready during July but another progress telecon is scheduled for 23rd June, where Ifremer will demo the functionality.
