June 2009

This is the project summary covering progress in June 2009. Work this month has focused on completing the Technical Specification in preparation for submission to ESA.

The initial sources of in situ data that will be used have been identified and the vast majority of information required for ingestion into GlobWave has been obtained from the relevant data providers. In addition, the Consortium has worked on the Technical Specification rearding all other system components. This includes data dissemination methods (i.e. ftp), data subsetting, data access and query via the online tools and the content of the GlobWave products (i.e. format, convention, variables, attributes, file naming, file storage etc). The sites to be used for the Pilot Spatial WFVS, Diagnostic Data Set and Global Wave Statistics have also been identified and a description of the processing required regarding the Altimeter and SAR products (including references to algorithms, papers etc.) has been included. The data processing required to enable construction of the satellite vs. in situ and satellite vs. satellite matchup databases and the processing infrastructure to be used at Ifremer and NOCS have also been described.

The Technical Specification was submitted to ESA on 26th June 2009 in preparation for Progress Meeting 2, which was scheduled on 16th July, 2009 at ECMWF in Reading, UK.

Based on actions assigned at Progress Meeting 1, several US-based members of the wave community have been identified and they will be invited to join the User Group in the coming month.
