This is the project summary covering progress in August 2009. Work this month has focused on the development of the GlobWave system.
The majority of the historical in situ data has been collected from the initial set of data providers and is being transcribed into a common format. This will enable us to construct the database itself using the data model described in the Technical Specification. The processing algorithms are being developed to enable the construction of the L2P Altimeter and SAR L2P products. In particular the TOPEX/POSEIDON and ERS-2 algorithms are nearly complete with quality criteria having been established for TOPEX/POSEIDON. In addition to development of the system, we have continued to address minor issues with the Technical Specification as a result of ESA and Steering Team comments. The first GlobWave Newsletter was mailed to the wave community and a Category 1 proposal was submitted to ESA in order to officially request the use of the appropriate L2 satellite data. As a result of our continued efforts to expand the GlobWave User Group, several members of the wave community in the US have agreed to join. The User Group has increased from 35 to 44 members during the course of the project so far.
