April 2012

This is the project summary covering progress in April 2012.

The first QQCR of 2012 is now available on the portal. In April a quality control and error estimation study on ERS and Envisat SAR Wave Mode data using collocated WaveWatch III model results was undertaken and validation bulletins for ERS-1 and ERS-2 discussing these results will be released soon.

A workflow to collect and ingest two new in situ data streams, CETMEF and NBDC was established. Processing of the CryoSAT-2 archive to GlobWave L2P format also took place in April. An analysis by ESA of their ERS and Envisat Wave Mode Data archives identified a number of gaps which also affected the GlobWave archive. Work was undertaken to fill these gaps in the archive, which should be completed in May.

The PS-WFVS development server was upgraded to enable processing of GRIB-2 messages. Testing has also begun on the fully automated production of NCEP-NOAA reports, which is expected to be operational in May. The Envisat satellite issue has meant limited SAR field and Envisat Altimetry data within April's PS-WFVS reports.

Discussions with GlobWave ‘power users' continue. A number of organisations have submitted testimonials or are preparing tutorials or case studies. These will be added to the portal in the coming weeks.
